Ready to find your Church home?
We invite you to join us as we follow Jesus, at First UCC.
Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are to Love God, and to Love people. (Matthew 22:36-40)
We strive to follow these two commandments.
We are committed to:
Loving God (Worship)
Helping Others (Love and Service)
Finding Joy (Discipleship and Evangelism).
We are committed to Loving God through our worship in preaching the Gospel of Jesus, recognizing our need for God’s grace, and growing as individuals and as a community in the faith.
We are committed to Helping Others through pointing all people to Jesus, and by seeking to provide for the needs of our community through our shared ministries.
We are determined to find the Joy that surpasses all understanding through loving God and loving others.
We do so through evangelism, discipleship, service, and by living our lives by the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
This Statement of Faith has been affirmed by our Church Council of Elders and Deacons, and our Senior Pastor, on June 9, 2025.
We believe that the Holy Bible, containing 66 books, is the God-breathed and inspired word of God that is authoritative to church doctrine, teaching, and preaching, and to the believer in all matters of faith and life that it speaks into. In this understanding, we believe it is infallible in its presentation of the redemption of God. We believe that our English translations of the scriptures are trustworthy, and that the original manuscripts of the scriptures are inerrant. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21; 1 Thess. 2:13; John 10:35b)
As we discern the message of Scripture, together, we do so as people informed by the historic Christian Church, affirming the three historic and ecumenical Creeds of the Christian Church (Apostles, Nicene, Athanasian), and taking seriously the Heidelberg Catechism.
We believe in the Triune God, as expressed through the historic Christian church. There is One God who exists in three distinct persons who are known to us as the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, yet they are distinct from one another.
God created the world, and everything in it, and desires for all people to come to know Him.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3; 10:30; Acts 5:3-4; Ephesians 1:3-14, 1 Timothy 2:4)
We believe that God created humanity in His image (Gen. 1:26) to dwell in perfect union with him (Genesis 1-2), but that Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s will in eating the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3).
Disobeying the will of God, or missing the mark of it, is known as sin, and the sin of Adam and Eve caused disunity between God and humanity, and disunity among humanity, as people chose the ways of sin over the ways of God (Rom. 3:23; Rom. 5:12,18-19; 1 Cor. 15:3-5).
Ever since the fall of humanity to sin, God has been pursuing His people to bring them back to union with him. The patriarchs of the faith were given guidance and direction, the prophets were given the laws of God (Moses), and continually calling the people to faithful repentance, and the priests guided the people to worship in tabernacles, synagogues, and the temple in Jerusalem. But the people needed a Messiah who would save them from the curse of sin, and bring them into union with God, for good.
We believe that Jesus Christ, who existed in the beginning with the Father and the Spirit, and being born of the Virgin Mary, is fully man and fully God. And we believe that he lived a sinless life that no one ever could, embodied and spoke about the Kingdom of God, and died on the cross to atone for our sins and liberate us from the curse of sin and death.
We believe that Salvation means to be set free from the curse of sin, evil, and death, and to be given a new life that sustains us in our lives now, and assures us of our eternal life after our earthly death.
We believe that salvation comes by the Grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Our faith is demonstrated by bearing the fruit of the Spirit in how we live our lives and engage the world around us.
(John 1:1-3, 3:1-21, Romans 3:21-31, 5:1-2, 6:23, 8:1-17, Galatians 2:15-21, Ephesians 2:1-10, Galatians 5:22-26)
Those who put their belief in Jesus Christ are promised the presence of the Holy Spirit who will guide them to follow the ways of Jesus, convict them of sin, and provide them with Spiritual gifts to advance the mission of the Kingdom of God (John 16:7-13, Acts 2:1-13, 1 Cor. 2:10-13, 1 Cor. 12-14, Gal. 5:16).
All Christians are called to be a part of a local Church (Hebrews 10:19-25). A local church is called to worship God, to administer the sacraments of Communion and Baptism that are a means of grace to the people of God (Matthew 26:36-28, 1 Corinthians 11:26, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4), to support one another, to receive and give sound council, and to foster the use of the Spiritual gifts of the people within and beyond the Church. (1 Thess. 5:11, The Eph. 4:32, Galatians 6:2, Luke 6:30, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27)
The Church’s Mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20), and to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in serving the needs of those around them (Matthew 25:31-46).
At our church, any follower of Jesus Christ, regardless of church affiliation, is welcome to receive Communion. Any who would like to be baptized within the church are asked to walk alongside us as members, or as children who grow in faith with us.
We believe that those who believe in and follow Jesus Christ are assured the promise of being with the presence of God after they pass away, in Heaven (Luke 23:43).
However, our faith assures us of a greater hope: that Jesus Christ is coming back to the earth again, and that He will establish the Kingdom of God, on earth as it is in Heaven. The followers of Christ, dead or alive, will exist in this new heavens and new earth for eternity. There will be no more pain, tears, war, or death.
(Acts 1:11, Matthew 24:29-31, Matthew 25:31-46, Revelation 21)
