Our Women’s Guild meets in the church parlor at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of October, December, February, April, and June. Interesting programming and speakers are a part of each meeting, as is a time of devotion or worship, fellowship, and refreshment. The added focus on missions, local and abroad, these women follow the work of Jesus, seeking to remember our homebound, widows, orphans, and the less fortunate.
Our Thank Offering tradition dates back to the days of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Before women had any active part in the church, they kept small boxes into which they put a penny or nickel when they were especially thankful for something. This has been compared to the Bible story of the widow's mite in that the women gave whatever they could, no matter how small. The boxes of coins that they gave throughout the year were brought to church on one particular Sunday. This became known as "Thank Offering" Sunday and it was the only time each year that women were able to actively participate in the worship service.
Over the years the role of women in the church and in society has changed and so too, Thank Offering has evolved into Family Thank Offering, but it remains an offering of thanksgiving and gratitude. Our guild has carried on this tradition of devoting a special Sunday for this offering with the focus chosen by the guild officers. Over the years the guild has donated thousands of dollars to different organizations, helping with devastation caused by war, hurricanes, floods, volcanic eruption, and also with projects to help Veterans and local organizations that help people in need.
Our Women’s Guild is our longest standing women’s ministry program, having been organized in 1950, and welcomes women of all ages, even men are invited to our wonderful programs!
